Day 3
Context: Philippians 2: 1-11
“Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” Philippians 2:7-8 NLT
Jesus was born in humble circumstances and died as a criminal on the cross. Although He was God He took on the form of a human being in order to reach mankind. His attitude was one of a servant and while on earth He reached out to everyone, even those of the lowest social status. He submitted to His heavenly Father in obedience, even death on the cross. So we are to have the same mind as Christ, putting others before ourselves.
When I read Sarah Youngs devotional on December 25th, she said she received revelation from Jesus that He scorned His birth. Yet in all scripture it was His intention to humble Himself and come as a servant, and be born not in a place of comfort and royalty, but in a place where animals were kept. Nowhere does scripture mention He was resentful of His Human Birth. This sounds like a prideful spirit; that is why we must stay with the Word, not someone’s revelation of hearing God’s voice. There was nothing in what Jesus Christ did where He sought recognition for Himself, instead His motivation was always to humble Himself so He could reach the lost.
Lord, remind me, although you were Devine, you took on human flesh to reach us and bring salvation to our souls through your humble sacrifice. You held back nothing, not even your life, Should I do less? (John 12:25)
