Matthew 26: 6-13
“While He was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head.” Matthew 26:7
While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon, who previously had leprosy, a woman came in with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over His head. The disciples were indignant about this and said it could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor. But Jesus said, “the poor will always be with you, but you will not always have me.” ” She has prepared my body for burial, and wherever the good news is preached throughout the world her deed will be remembered and discussed.
There is a stench to death and a beautiful fragrance with life. Jesus’ death brought forth the fragrance sensed only by those who accept His death on the cross. Our righteousness is like filthy rags, but the righteousness found in Christ’s is as white linen. He clothes us with the fragrance of life when we come into His presence with repentance. He exchanges joy for sorrow, and He anoints us with gladness in the midst of our enemies. His presence permeates the air with a freshness remaining for those who accept Him, as their Lord and Savior. Their prayers go up to the Father as a beautiful aroma pleasing to Him.
Jesus’ precious head was anointed and so were His feet. In the tomb where His Body laid upon the mercy seat there were Cherubim sitting ( one at His Head and the other at His feet) exclaiming eternal life, His victory. He has risen, and the seed sown in darkness, breaks forth like a rose with the fragrance of His glory, for all who believe.
Thank You , Jesus, for exchanging your life for all who are perishing. We sense your anointing because you have given us this same anointing through the indwelling presence of your Holy Spirit. Anoint us Lord from our head to our feet to bring the good news of your salvation so those who are perishing can see.
