Matthew 26
Matthew 26: 1-5
“As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified,” Matthew 26:2
After Jesus spoke to His disciples about the final judgment, He reminded them of how the Passover would begin in two days. He also reminded them that the Son of Man would be handed over to be crucified. While He was telling them that He would die, the leading priests and elders were meeting in the home of Caiaphas, the High Priest, plotting how to arrest Jesus and kill Him. But they agreed it shouldn’t take place during the Passover Celebration because the people could riot,
As preparation for Passover was taking place. The lamb of God was preparing His disciples concerning what was to take place. He did not want them “wondering” around about what was happening. What was intentionally evil, God intended for the ultimate good for all mankind, – Salvation through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son.
Jesus always let His disciples know what they needed to hear so they could be ready, and recall it when it took place, and promised the Holy Spirit, Who would counsel them when He went away.
As believers, we are never without counsel, nor left in the dark, because we have God’s Holy Spirit Who keeps us ready, through His Word. His Word is Light.
Lord, thank you for giving us your Holy Spirit Who shows us the things to come, making us ready, so we are never unaware, confirming all things through the understanding of your Word. Your Word is Truth. You have made your Word “abundant”, and perfectly clear. (1 John 2:27)
