What’s Behind those Interruptions and Distractions?

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

Every morning, I set my alarm at 5:00 a.m. so I can spend the first hour of the day with my Lord. Sometimes it’s longer, and sometimes it’s shorter, but this is my secret place where I seek His Face. But if I neglect to prepare and dedicate this time exclusively to Him, you can be assured that whatever I allow will intrude, even fatigue, so I must guard it in every way. (Matthew 26:40)

This morning, as I prepared the family room for my exercise routine. I turned on the video, put the volume on mute, moved the center console out of the way, set my Apple Watch to monitor my heart rate, turned on my iPhone music, and put on my weights. All of this to exercise for just 30 minutes.  Well, needless to say, I set my robot vacuum cleaner to clean a distant room at the same time.  And lo and behold, you got it! It went rogue and entered my exercise space. So every few minutes, I had to stop to untangle cords and move out of the way.

This reminded me of how easily we can be entangled in other things if we do not guard”Our Secret” Place. There is just no room for any other one or thing when focusing on God’s Word and prayer. It’s like allowing an uninvited guest to break in on your conversation. God wants our full affection and attention; hearing His voice, and He accepts nothing less. (Jeremiah 29:13)

Lord, forgive me for not guarding our time together. Remind me how you need my full attention as we come together, one-on-one, in our intimate relationship.

PS As I am writing this blog, I hear the sound of my rogue robot vacuum coming my way! Yipes!

“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.”And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.” Psalm 27:8

About Doula Faith

I am first and foremost a child of God, "born again" into the Kingdom of God through faith in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has called me to be an "Encourager" of faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. I have learned through some painful trials of His unconditional love. The apple of my eye, is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Living Word.
