“Then he picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them in his shepherd’s bag and, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, started across to Goliath.”
1 Samuel 17:40
When David went out to defeat Goliath, the giant, with only his staff and sling, he remembered to pick up from the stream five smooth stones. He remembered as a shepherd how God delivered him from the lion and the bear and knew he would deliver this enemy into his hands. 1 Samuel 17:37 -47
When God opened the Jordan River, making it possible for Joshua and the people of Israel to enter the Promised Land, He told Joshua to have one member from each tribe return to the river bed and take with them twelve stones. These stones were the testimony of God’s faithfulness in “remembrance” of how he prepared the way before them to enter the Promise Land.
The weapon that defeats the giant is our faith. Not faith in ourselves but faith in God’s faithfulness.
Take from the waters of your memories of how God has been faithful before. The Lord will never leave you or forsake you, or leave you alone.
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
