“I waited patiently for the Lord;he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the slimy pit,out of the mud and mire;he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3
In the darkness of the hour
When light does seem to flee
I think about my problems
I concentrate on me.
The Pit is dug much deeper
In the tears I shed for self
My mind is bruised and battered
As I crucify myself.
Falling deeper in self pity
The rain comes pouring down
I am floating, striving, struggling
To find some solid ground.
But then as I dare to look
From self to other ones
I am reminded the raging battle
On the cross was fought and won.
There’s a gentle light glowing
So gently on my heart
A hand extended outward
A hand that heals my thoughts.
I am walking on the water
I am flying in the air
His Peace is now within me
My God has heard my prayer.
Isaiah 40: 31 – 1980
