The Easter Lily

Lily -Shushannah (Hebrew) symbolically represents purity, beauty, and renewal.

The beautiful white trumpet-shaped Lily in scripture is related to how Jesus views His Church. In Song of Songs, the bride of the King knows who she is to her beloved. She sees herself as the Lilly of the Valley, and the King sees her beauty in contrast to others as the thorns.

Song of Solomon 2:1-2

She

“I am a rose of Sharron, a lily of the valleys.”

He

“Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women.”

The thorns represent sinners or unbelievers. . Christ makes the believer righteous through Faith in Him. White speaks of purity.

In Matthew 6:28 the lily represents Trusting God. Resting in God’s provision.

“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.”

The lily speaks of spiritual growth and renewal and the promise of resurrection in Christ. Just as the lily’s bulb is buried in the ground and then breaks forth as a green shoot in newness of life, so did Christ’s death bring life. He rose from the grave and was glorified. And this resurrection is promised to all who become His offspring.

Finally, the trumpet-shaped lily is seen as proclaiming Christ’s victory over death.

About Doula Faith

I am first and foremost a child of God, "born again" into the Kingdom of God through faith in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has called me to be an "Encourager" of faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. I have learned through some painful trials of His unconditional love. The apple of my eye, is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Living Word.
