Scripture Context: Romans 8:1-39

“And we know that God causes everything to work for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28

God has called believers to be heirs with Christ.  We can never be separated from His love. His plans for us are always good. We overcome evil because we are destined to be conformed to Christ, “therefore, all things are worked out for good” on our behalf, because God has a plan and a purpose for our life.

Recently, I was in an automobile accident. As I hesitated and stopped before turning into what would have been a perilous road, my SUV was suddenly hit from behind and abruptly stopped. The car was damaged, but I escaped without injury.  I was actually, without realizing it about to turn into a road where oncoming traffic was exiting a nearby bridge.  The sudden crash stopped me in my tracks and prevented me from proceeding, which could have ended up far worse, maybe a head-on collision.  The Lord revealed this to me afterward.  The young woman who hit me seemed a little spacey, as though she might be on some drug.  As I got out of my car and approached her she was upset, trying to blame me, and used the four-letter word as she spoke.  I thought to just calm her down. I simply told her that everything would somehow work out, and so I prayed for her and asked the Lord to simply take over and watch over this circumstance for both of us. She suddenly began to pay attention, and agreed with my prayer, saying, “Yes”.  I then proceeded to report the accident to the police.  I asked her if she knew Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and she matter-of-factly responded, ” I sure do.”
I told her that sometimes the Lord allows these things to happen to get our attention.  I then prayed Psalm 46: 1.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

It turned out that Justine, ( I asked her name), had an expired license,  out of state plates, and the car was without registration and belonged to her live-in boyfriend.  As I waited with my husband, ( I called him to come)  while the policeman was filing the report, I felt compassion and love for her as she stood in the sun, lifting up her hands as though in worship, silently singing and praying.  I went over to her and told her she should get in the shade, and told her I would be praying for her.  I asked if she was reading the Word, at which, she responded, casually, “Every day”.  Before we left, I walked over to her one last time, to try and encourage her, but as she realized she was in trouble with the police report, she began to get angry and again started using the four-letter word. I told her, “Justine”, God doesn’t want us to talk like that and would have spoken more about perhaps her present lifestyle, God willing, but she abruptly cut me off, frustrated, saying, “Lady”!  So I stopped and left while telling her once more, I would pray for her.

Driving away from the accident I realized the Lord had stopped maybe two of His children from heading in the wrong direction.  For me, it could have been a fatal accident and possibly someone else, and for Justine, it was an alert, an alarm for her to stop and leave her sinful lifestyle before possibly having something worse happen or losing her life.
John 5:14

Dear Lord, I am so grateful that you intervene in a way that saves us from destruction as you work everything for good in our life.  I pray we all get serious concerning sin, and how it has no place in a believer’s life. Lord, I pray for Justine and all of us who say we have a relationship with you, to leave this world and honor you with our life.
