 Receptionist: a person employed in an office, hotel, doctor’s surgery, etc, to receive clients, guests, or patients, answer the telephone, arrange appointments, etc

Recently, I’ve been made aware of how the person whose job it is, to answer the phone, can either break or make the business it represents. That person, who many times, is paid the lowest, actually, is the first to make either a positive or negative impression.  That is why, their conduct, is crucial to the success of any company or organization.

Similarly, every child of God is a receptionist and representative of Jesus Christ. It’s not only the pastor or missionary who is called to a godly life but everyone who has answered God’s call in response to His salvation. That is why as believers, it is important how we relate to those who do not know Christ.

Many times, what determines whether or not someone would ask that crucial question, “What is the Hope that is within You?”, is based on how we receive them. If we are rude, condescending or indifferent, might one decide to take their questions concerning God elsewhere?

Sanctification is the process in which the Holy Spirit transforms us from self-centeredness to Christ-centeredness. When we are respectful and polite, cognizant of the other person’s needs, might they be more open and attracted to our “business” in representing Christ? That is certainly my prayer.

“I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day;

I’d rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way.

The eye is a better pupil, more willing than the ear;

Fine counsel is confusing, but example is always clear,

And the best of all the preachers are the men who live their creeds,

For to see a good put in action is what everybody needs.”
