Knowledge of the Truth
“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:34
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”
Proverbs 14:12
Ignorance: unawareness of something, often of something important
One of the important reasons Jesus Christ left heaven to come to earth was to reveal the truth. Throughout his ministry and mission, he repeated in earnest that he was the TRUTH. He came to open eyes and ears so that anyone listening could see through the lies of darkness and hear the truth that would set them free. What was the important message Jesus came to give? The important message was and still is; God loves us and wants to reconcile us to Himself. Jesus came to reconcile us to the Father. Because of our rebellion and sin we are alienated from His presence.
When Adam and Eve chose to listen to another voice other than God the Father, they became deceived. They were enticed to mistrust the very ONE who had given them life and walked with them each and every day. The lie is one we have also swallowed today; that we are our own god and we can approach God in our own way.
We will never be able to approach a Holy and Righteous God on our own terms. How did we come to think, otherwise (Hebrews 12: 28-28)? The only way we can approach a Holy God is to be invited. Try marching up to the President of the United States without an invitation and see how far you’ll go. This of course is ludicrous, yet we think we can approach God without His invitation. Jesus came to invite anyone who would listen to come back to Him. He paved the way by cleansing us through His sacrifice. Because God is Holy no one can come into His presence unclean. Our sins have made us unclean. Jesus has made us clean by shedding His own blood on our behalf (Hebrews 9:22). We have not understood that God is Holy and He is righteous. Therefore, we remain in our sin and are unable to stand in His presence. But if our sin is removed, we can come before a Holy God who loves us. We cannot remove our own sin. So God has sent His Son, who knew no sin to do it for us.
There are many of us today who still believe that we can carve out for ourselves a path to eternal life and happiness. Those misguided are simply barking up the wrong tree. But all of these paths are lies that lead to destruction and eternal separation from God (Proverbs 14:12).
Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). He came to lay down his life, marked by His blood as a clear and simple path to the Father. He came to dispel “ignorance” and remains God’s only provision. There are not many ways to a righteous and Holy God, as some have believed, but only “One”.
God’s Solution: Believe in the Only One who told the Truth, and is the Truth, Jesus Christ. He has paid the penalty for our sins. He has not made the path complicated or difficult, but has made it so simple a child can follow and understand.
Now that you are no longer ignorant of the TRUTH, what is holding you back from receiving all that the Father has for you through believing in His Son?
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11: 25-26
