Our Rear Guard

Rear Guard

“But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your “rear guard”. Isaiah 52:12

Do you have difficulty forgetting your past sins? Do they creep up behind you and suddenly confront you when you are discouraged and doubt? It’s the enemy trying to drag you into condemnation and if you are so inclined to look back, he certainly will oblige. (Romans 8:1)

When the Israelites left Egypt, they came to a place of difficulty whereby they could not pass through. The Red Sea was before them while the Egyptian army were threatening and approaching to enslave and attack from behind (vs.14:5). So it was that the Angel of the Lord who was leading the Israelites moved behind them separating them from the Egyptians while they remained in the light.
(Exodus 14:19-20)

“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

The Lord then told Moses to move onward and to hold up his staff to part the Red Sea. And just as they had previously left Egypt’s bondage, they moved forward in freedom on dry ground. (John 8:36, Isaiah 43:14-22)

In Ephesians 6:10-17 we see the armor of protection covering the believer from head to toe. But did you notice there is no mention of any protection from the back? The Lord’s sacrifice has taken care of all past sins, failures and circumstances, through His blood shed for you for the forgiveness of all sin.
(Isaiah 1:18, Philippians 3:14, Hebrews 9:22)

The believer is equipped to move ahead in battle while the Lord Himself guards his back. The Lord goes before him routing out the enemy to make a way removing every obstacle  as he/she learns to wait on Him. It is the believer’s part to trust while the Lord surrounds him/her from all sides. Therefore, the believer’s defense is in the Lord and all fiery accusations are extinguished by the Blood of the Lamb; trusting in His victory at the cross. (Romans 8:1, Isaiah 40: 30-31)

Remember, precious one in Christ Jesus, continue moving forward in faith and confidence, knowing the One Who won the battle over sin has your past (Philippians 3:14-15) future (Romans 8:28-30) and present (Psalm 46:1-3) circumstance covered by His “Right” Hand. (Luke 22:69)
